Gedan Kakato Geri
Gedan Kakato Geri, Gedan mawashi geri with kakato.
I'm actually quite interested in who first used it or developed it? Bulgaria's Domitov(?) seems to use it very well. Do you think it's more effective than normal "Gedan mawashi" or "Brazillian otoshi gedan geri"? I bet just use what you are comfortable with, but how Domitov uses is just natural. Osu.

This kick as far as I know originated some ten years ago in Denmark.

cool kick, I haven't seen it used that much and I'm not sure why. In all honesty I "play around" with the Andy Hug spinning variation more often but I think I will start focusing on this one a bit more.

I saw a video of the 1985 British Open the other day and Sensei Graeme Warden used this kick a lot en route to the lightweight final.

I dont know who originated it in kyokushin, but I do know it is found in other arts awell. A friend who is (or was nowdays) in bujinkan (ninjutsu) showed me a identical kick to the one in the pictures above, as a traditional kick in the art.
I liked the to do kick very much for a while, but I could never realy get any effect from it, so I have mostly stopped doing it now.

I have a couple of other variations that I use and these cause blues & blacks and many times ended the fights!!
1-Uramawashi with heel either to the outside if you have the same leg forward or to the inside if legs forward are different. I prefer the one to the inside tough. I execute it semi-uramawashi & semi-axekick, but more in the horizontal so it is an almost diagonal & I drop all my bodyweight behind it for maximum impact!! be carefull as this is a very close distance kick and if it isn't delivered effectively then you are open for counter attack big time!! 2. against same leg in front, execute a few lowkicks with back leg to his front leg as a sort of testing to see how he reacts. When he starts blocking start the motion (your backleg to his frontleg) but instead of hitting his now raised defense, continue and pass in front of his raised defense, use your momentum and execute an axe/uramawashi (or hook) to his backleg (the one he's standing on) Very painfull!!!

Dear cold,
Is your "uramawashi" the same as "ushiro mawashi" (back spinning kick)? And are you referring to the same kick in 1 and 2? OSU!

The Uramawashi I'm reffering to is not turning it is usually done to the face and begins exactly like a sidekick...Americans call it a hook kick.
the first kick is more of that Uramawashi but the second is more of the axekick. in the 2nd I have more space to move in so I do a bit of a higher kick. I go up to middle level and strike downward at the opponent's quadriceps. in the first kick it leaves the floor and goes directly to the inner tight usually lands on the "illea psoa" muscle (not sure about the spelling) is it ok? I know explaining it is tough and seeing it is better...If I can get my hands on a digital camera, I will film it!!

Dear cold,
Thanks for your explanation. At first I was thinking you were talking about something like "(Andy) Hug Tornaedo"(gedan ushiro mawashi geri). Your "gedan uramawashi" is just the opposite (as to the direction of using force) to the "gedan kakato geri", very interesting. I remembering you said in another post you do side kick and hook kick combination to the head and I find that more easier to do (I find it harder to throw a hard gedan uramashi then jodan). If you feel like filming it then it will be a great honour of mine to watch it here OSU!

Dear Kakatootoshi, if it means so much to everybody, I will do my best to film it!!
I'll also think of some other specific techniques we use and include these so you guys could maybe include them in your training?? OSU!

After seeing this thread, I asked about it with one of my elders. It's not commonly practiced, but he knew how it worked. So we traded a few kicks at the stationary position. It was a little awkward for me at first. But it really is a low axe kick to the thigh. Hopefully, I'll try it out during free spar.

the technique (the first one discussed, not the one that "cold" provided) is shown here from the shinkyokushin european championship. ( most clearly 2 times, 1.24 and 1,25 into the vid)

It's a very nice kick indeed, but you have to be careful to use it, as you can accidentally hit the knee of your opponent, and this is a very serious fault.
