How to train ankle joint!

Basically, you put your feet(Chuusoku area) on Dumbells then roll and balance yourself on them.

Ankle joints
Great suggstions RASor, and I like the fun combination of stuff. However, I must just point out that if skates have rigid anlke support, the calf muscles (and therefore the ankles) becoem very weak.

I skate a lot, and I find that if I have skated and not done much else for a few weeks, when I get back toother activities, my ankles are wobbly, and my calf muscles have lost condition +++.

The other suggestiosn are excellent.

I would like to add - standing on one leg, and once this is easy, close eyes. this si very, very good for rehabilitation after a twisted anlke, as it works both joint-position sense and ankle stabilisers.

If you want to get very serious, you could try building or buying a thing called a balance board, which is a round disc about 80cm across, wiht a 1/2 sphere of metal nailed underneath. The sphere makes a rocking surface, so the disc is very unstable. You stand on it, initially with two feet, eyes open, then eyes closed, then one foot eyes open, and then, if you can, one foot, eyes closed. There are specific exerciese you can do with this as well, such as rolling the rim around rocking back and fort.

RASor's suggestions are excelletn, because they are everyday activities and are fun. The balance board is more for rehab, or if you know you ahve weak ankles, and eg want to work on something constructive (other than stretching) while you watch television.

I remember in the 80's when skate boarding was becoming more and more popular. My cousin was riding and hit a curb and face planted into the sidewalk front teeth first.

Needless to say that turned me off from skateboarding for life. I do like to skip rope though... no risk of whipping my front teeth out of place.

hehe my friend does skateboarding a lot and broke his board like 5x.
So I can imagine you could break something easily if you take the hit instead of the board.

Anyway, the method in the videoclip looks very original. Never thought of usin g weights like that.
I used to get a lot of injuries around my calf area so I tried some exercises described in a video ( Titanium ankles) at dogentricks.com

Always train your shins if you train your calfs and vice versa.

Dear nzproud,
バレー is Volleyball.
Ballet should be バレエ.

A ballance board is good to work on the ankle (and ballance). If you haven't got one at home just take a plank of wood (or a big, hard cover book) and put it on top of a rolling pin. Ballance away on one foot at a time (or both) at your leisure!

Question STAND on DUMBELLS?
nzproud,

You mentioned that:
Quote:
Basically, you put your feet(Chuusoku area) on Dumbells then roll and balance yourself on them.
What I find hard to understand is: how can you balance yourself when you are standing, tip-toed - on the Chusoku area - on the handles of dumbells, and with two feet?

And how does this strengthen the ankle joint rather than improve your balance?
