How do you feel about running?
I have noticed in Bloke's thread asking people to record their running routines, there are lots of posts about how much people hate running. I think karateka are a mixed bag when it comes to running...many of us hate it, some of us can't do it any more, others can't function without our daily fix of running.
How do you feel?

don't like it!
Playing basketball and running up and down the court isn't an issue at all....running around a track or down the street...blah vapor

I don't like running at all.
Maybe it has something to do with my militairy background. We had to run 2 times a week 5km and 1 time 15km. Been hating it since that time, I guess. But now that I'm preparing for the tournament I have started running again.

I used to do alot of running when i was at school and won awards for it too! But now i don't care for it much. My Dad is a good runner and he always entered me in junior runs when he competed in races! He takes me running now when im preparing for tournaments and if he did'nt literally come and get me out of the house then i would'nt do it lol

I really can't pick one of the choices. There are times when I like running, and I even look forwards to it. Then there are times when I would rather not run at all. I'd have to say that I am 50/50 on running.
I truly dislike having to try to set my running pace to another's. IF I have to run, I would like to be able to run at what is comfortable to me. |

Aside from the fact that I hate it because it's the most boring form of training, if your jogging/ karate exercise ratio is wrong your muscles will transform in muscles specialized for jogging. That means no lactic acid tolerance, ouch!

I love Track and Field and I hated Cross Country.
Sprints and short distance intervals are challenging. Distance running is demoralizing.

i think the vast majority of people hate running but you do have to do it regularly, especially as you go up the grades...theres nothing more embarassing than getting caught in a training session and they decide to go for a run....you bent over double trying not to be sick, as the lower grades trot by like olympic athletes....this only happened to me once !..

I used to dislike it but over time I have learned to love it - mostly nothing more than 10km and aynthing below that.

Haha..I went running yesterday right after work for a few miles then had to run with my unit the next morning for 5 miles. I know what you mean but when I slack off on my running it definitely shows on my belly!

I hate running and will do ANYTHING to avoid it!!! I don't mind other people being better than me at running regardless of their grades. If I wanted to be a runner i would have joined an athletics club! But i didn't! I'm a karateka and I'm speding my time doing what I love best! And that's karate, not running! And I try to be the best at that!!

Running is good. I'm more of a short distance than a long distance though.
Track season is a long time away. That gives me time to prepare. |

Also I dont know about the other members, but sometimes running feels like a form of meditation to me. After a while there arent any more thoughts in your head and its just your breathing, those are the running sessions I like.
