On certain things i can train by myself at home...like shadow boxing, stretching, calisthenics etc...but when i'm doing other things, i need someone there that i can bounce off of. I am VERY competitive when it comes to working out or training. So i need the other person's competition, if not, i can't really do much.
For example...doing jump ropes...when i do it myself, i do it half assed. But when i do it with my friend, trying to out do each other, i push myself further than i normally do, just to have the opportunity to say...WHO'S THE KING?!?!? in his face...lol. ![]() |

I know the feeling, back in highschool during gym class i seemed to be able to do twice as many situps then the people next to me. While back at home i seemed to lose focus much faster.
Home training for me is mostly bag training, kata, power cord excercises, perfect pushup and running. whatever the gym doesn't have that the dojo does i usually go out and buy. |

i wish i had a place i can hang a thai bag on...my house is a bit too old, i'm afraid that the beams would break when i kick the bag...heck, when i even hang the bag...lol.

Normally i train at the gym, round my mates and also the Dojo. But when i have to train at home i do a circuit which is 22 push ups 22 squats 50 crunches Repeat 3 times with no rest then a 1 min break and onto 20 incline push ups(feet on the sofa - great for building the shoulders as well) 25 feet together sqauts 20 full sit ups Repeat 3 times with no rest then a 1 min break and onto 15 hands together push ups(Tricep killer) 25 squats 20 leg raises Repeat 3 times with no rest then a 1 min break and onto 20 high front kicks on each leg 20 side kicks on each leg 10 lots of punch combos with 5kg dumbell(4 punches in each combo) Repeat 3 times with no rest then drink a smoothie(once the panting stops!) I have found this to be a good all rounder working various parts of the body and is also a great time saver when you want to squeeze in a quickie when busy John |

Hey,
I always do the warming-up like we do in the dojo, this also includes a bit strenght training. Then I practice on a heavy bag for a while and practice some routines. Afterwards I do some static stretching. I dont practice kata but I will when I`m on vacation, we always go to a place in the summer where there is a lot of room. I can train everything there, it is right in the nature next to a big lake and there is noone there except us and 3 other families, perfect for me. |

sounds like the perfect training ground. i love practicing in a nice, secluded area because in my opnion nature training equals the best training. i also do alot of meditating also.i want to do like Oyama and sit under a cold waterfall and meditate, but i haven't found a good waterfall yet.i would really love to train in the Chinese Mountains.maybe the Wudang Mountains that is my life's dream.Last edited by Kyokushin_Practioner; 04-03-2008 at 11:09 AM. |

I run my dogs for a half mile then on Mon-Wed-Fri I do upper body weights and do Kata/Punches/Blocks Tue-Thurs I do Lower body and abs with my kicks. Saturday is a 3 hour class and that is plenty! Sunday I dont do a thing lol. I think Monday nights I will also be doing some Judo again. |

Train Train Train!
I am currently training for the tri-nations junior championships in South Africa. I train twice a week at my dojo. And then almost every other day i train in the woods which are local to where i live with three other juniors from my club and a black belt from my club. We do mainly fitness and sparring or padwork in the sessions away from the club but i really enjoy training away from the club and after a space of time you really notice the difference of your fitness levels compared with those that dn't train as often

Yes I train at home all of the time. I like to do kihon, kata, and review various exercise sequences. I like to practice my weapons in the backyard, and to work on my cardio like jumping rope.
I do my shin/forearm conditioning while watching my favorite t.v. shows. |

And please change that font it kills my eyes.
I train at home and is very hardcore. I'm writing myself a new training plan. I think some of my ideas are interesting (but not very original) and i'd like to share them with you. Maybe you can benefit from it/them ![]() Here is one of the "circuits". Using a 100-150 pound sand bag. This is to be done without rest. One minute rest between sets. 3 sets is fine i think. Run with sandbag on one shoulder : 100 meters. Switch shoulder and repeat. Power clean sand bag 20 times. Squat sand bag 20 times. Grab onto a bar and do 20 sideways bends (from down to up and back down is 1 rep). Do 20 triple clap pushups. Do 20 clap muscle ups and finish with 20 squat jumps with sandbag. The sideways thing is this, don't know what it's called: And you have your feet touch under you on the poll and then over you on the poll and back. |

Congratulations to all of you. I seriously do not know how you can train on your own. If I am not in class or at the gym teaching a spin class or taking some sort of boxing drills with a buddy to try to keep up with or surpass, the forget it, I'll even do the dishes. No way in hell do I train at home. No katas, no desensitizing, no working on my weak grips especially no pull ups or those side maneuvers that look unreal! I simply hate it. When I have a buddy, I love it. I don't understand the psychology of it, but I've tried it enough in my several years of exercising to know, working on my own physically will not happen unless there is some sort of miracle within. I admire you all deeply! And, quite frankly am envious.

I always found it hard to exercise at home, but found that having my program written out helps me to stick to it. I could never stick to jogging (never thought I could do it), but found the couch to 5km program on the internet and stuck to that really well. Keeping an exercise diary also helps, because if I don't write in it for the day I feel guilty

OSU!
I use to do weights 1/2 times week, Kata, Kihon, conditioning, etc. I use also to watch also a lot of technical martial arts movies or reading good books, even from different styles, and then I take it to my Karate classes (in special to apply in Bunkai or in Goshin Jitsu). In general at home I use to do Kihon Geiko, all basic Kata (sometimes perfecting the advanced) and some callisthenic. Sometimes I do Kumite techniques (solo, like shadow boxing) to learn new stuff and improve my fighting quality. Occasionally, I do makiwara or punching bag. If you just go to Dojo 2 times week is not enough … everybody should do some homework. So, be wise, work hard but safe…and never forget to sweat a lot! OSU! |
