I alway thought that a candle was more a demonstration device that a training one.
Isn't it ? OSU! |

I would rather spend time on the makiwara and the heavybag.

I have never done it, however I consider doing it at my junior-class, if time allows it.

I have done it, for best application take off your dogi jacket and use a big stomp candle (not the long small ones)... and no blowing/exhaling on your punches

Another use of Candles is to sit in Kiba Dachi with a bar above your legs and candles beneith - you have to stay there until the candles burn down - different take but hey they come in Boxes of 8 don't they??

i have trained with candles once and i think that this kind of training helps you understand the correct speed, blow and concentration of the hit!!!if the hit hasn't a lot of speed the flame is not going to extinguish...if a hit has the right speed and weight it wiil be very strong!!

I think that candle training is of vital importance in training !!!!! here's why Karate is consisted of both physical and spiritual techniques. Yes the heavy bag and makiwara is vitally important it's an indespensible training aspect....but...candle training adds another dimension to your punching power that you cannot get from a makiwari or heavy bag. It is my personal belief that although the candle training may build up one's speed and power it also borders on the spiritual/mental aspect of karate that CANNOT BE IGNORED....I THINK THAT IT SHOULD BE PRACTICED AS ANY OTHER TRAINING TECHNIQUE.... I disagree. I've never heard of any practice with makiwara or candles in my dojo, yet we've managed to produce several world champions. For many years we didn't even have more than 2 heavybags. They are not vital for success, they are simply tools you can choose to include in your daily practice. For me, a candle has no other use than the sheer fun of it, and I've never really understood the makiwara.

i think the purpose of training with candles is to have teaches proper technique, and also teaches u how to relax
also help u to have stopping power but its still just a funny way to train when u want to do some thing diffrent than your regular training ous |

Osu! Grasshopper1486,
While your opinion is appreciated, please don't shout it at the forum members. Some of us have very sensitive hearing. Osu!
