Well this may sound boring but it is what worked for me with kicks and other thechniques over the years.....repetition and perfection of the technique.....the cleaner yout technique the faster you can get it...remember "Smooth is quick.....Fast aint Smooth".....meanig good smooth technique is quick .........fast and jerky isn't and is often slower. Going too fast too early or to hard to early usually stunts ones technique....Only puch as quickly as you can punch correctly.....same with kicks...only kick as high, hard and fast as you can do it with good form......first comes technique....then speed, then power.....Hit stuff and do it often...the bag will tell you things the makiwara wont...and the makiwara will tell you things that bag wont.......this can highlight problems in your stance and form......Perfection of the basics....sorry I do not have any silver bullets....my instructors never taught me magic...they just taught me how to sweat and how to get the most from my sweat........

Develop punching power like others have stated, going over your form until you get muscle failure. Doing pad work and bag work will also help you. Also, try sport specific excercises for the kind of punches you're doing..i.e. kettlebells, weights while punching, etc. If you punch with gloves an old trick used by boxers and more is to use huge gloves(18oz and bigger) when doing your training.
However, going back to the basics, proper form is often the key.
