Hours devoted to Kyokushin training?
Due to life constraints, I can't obviously work out like some of the previous champions mentioned. I go to school for 4-5 hours, work for 5-6, then go to kyokushin class and work out on off class days. So on an average workout, it would be anywhere from 1-2 hours weightlifting or 1-2 hours in kyokushin class on any given day, 4-5 days a week. Although i'd love to be able to wake up and traing all day, it just won't happen because like everyone I have to pay taxes.
So how many hours a day do you devote towards bettering yourself as a kyokushin practioner? OSU Marc

Re: Hours devoted to Kyokushin training?
I try to train 3-4 hours a day but I don't take steroids and when I train I do it very hard almost to the limit so I usually get ill from influenza :x Although I have vaccination my immune system is weakened from the heavy trainings. I consume all kinds of proteins, gainers and vitamins but the result is the same. For my next competition I am going to buy Tricreatine Malate and L-Glutamine in order to survive. I won't take drugs ...still

I agree with greedy's comment. It's not how much you work it's how hard you work.
I would love to have more time to be able to devote each day towards it, but alas it won't happen. Good luck on training everyone. OSU

I have a fulltime job as well as my family to feed. Also I have past my prime time and no longer compete in tournaments. Therefore I can't spend too much time in training any more.
So I reduced my training days to 3 time per week. (2 hours per training day). However, as a black belt, I can't dedicate whole 2 hours to my training because I need to instruct Kohai and teach classes. Non-training days, I do push-ups,leg lifts, and sqwats 200 time each and strech out my body for 30min or so. Right now, my focus is to build monsters from our dojo who can compete in world tournaments rather than pursuing my own interests. |

Kyokushin555 I wish I had 5 hours a day to spend towards kyokushin. With school and work, it's hard enough finding 1-2 hours a day to devote to it. OSU!

Kakatootoshi.
I and my Sensei is trying to convince one of our students, shodan, to go to the world cup in Australia this fall. The student qualifeis for the tournament to represent the country, but cost of going to Australia is pretty expensive. A plane ticket costs around $1800 and plus hotel. I personaly wanna go there as a coach and participate in a camp after the tournament. We need to come up with the money somehow so we can send the student there. Planning fundraising but I don't think it is enough to cover expense. |

Dear andytaro,
I feel sad to hear that. I hope your student can keep training hard for the moment and see if some miracles come up before the Worldcup! All the best in budo. OSU!

On my non-class days, it's usually only an hour or two. My main emphasis right now is on kihon and kata, so I try to pick one punch, kick, block, and kata and do several of each per day, I don't always get every day but 4-5 times a week is close. I do 100 reps of each of the first three with turns, then do the kata 20 times. I'm trying to stick with them for a month to work on improving them all slowly but surely, right now I'm merely doing chudan seiken, gedan-barai, mae geri, and Taikyokyu Ichi and it seems to be working out pretty well.
If I don't feel like doing that for the day, I'll go outside to my heavy bag and just work on kumite combinations for a while.

Right now, I'm only dedicating 1hr - 1hr30mins to Karate. I originally planned on going atleast 5hrs but I underestimated the training and classes. BIG MISTAKE. My stamina is not ready. My condition is not ready. My recovery will not be quick enough. I nearly didn't make it after my 3rd class in 3 days. I did not expect such high rep training after sitting on my butt and thinking it'd be like the training I had at World Oyama. I'm left with NOTHING but my spirit and it's even taken a toll on that. It's amazing.

I have encountered problems recently that curtailled my training. Namely financial ones. I'm sure my instructor would say, "come train" anyway however his dojo is part of a gym where you're charged either instruction or membership. I didn't feel that the owner was too sympathetic to students who are not current on their tuition. Matter of fact I know he wouldn't be. Didn't want to be a source of conflict plus my pride wouldn't allow me to go there for free.
