Training for tournament - X. R. Liu
Since December 2006, I've been training for the upcoming North American Weight Category. It will be a great challenge for me. I have to train harder than ever. OSU!
Saturday, January 27, 2006 10:00AM to 11:15AM - Stamina training - Mix of push-ups, sit-ups, jumping-jacks, etc. - Pad work with Sensei (my very honorable coach Sensei Savard). Focus on Shita Tsuki, Tobi Ushiro Yoko Geri, Do Mawashi Kaiten Geri. - Kumite

I always found it profoundly curious that people "train harder for upcoming tournament(s)".
I ask why, your training (daily in and out of the dojo) should be of a level that at any time you can step into the ring and do your best at the level you are!!! Often when we where young and did well at a few tournaments we would step up in divisions, many times as as a gokyu or so and at 16, 17 I would fight in B/B division and do well. The experiance gained was knowing what I did well and what needed work. Entering a tournament should not be about if you win or not but what knowledge you gained.... Often those who do extra training for a tournament fail and fail bad, do to missing the training of the mind and spirit... body work is only part of your training if the mind & spirit is not at or above your body you will be beaten and often by a lesser skilled apponent. Because they have balanced their training to be strong at mind, body, spirit.... But what do I know, I just train for the hell of it, and learned that each trophy I have is nothing, but every lesson learn during the tournament was the turn victory !!! |

It has been a while since my last post.
A few things I know now about the tournament: I'm in the brown belt middleweight category (15 to 17 years old boys, more than 59.1kg/130lbs). I'm 14 years old, weighting 140 lbs (just a little too much for the lightweight category). Friday, February 16, 2007 8:15PM to 9:00PM 100 rope jumping 55 push-ups 100 rope jumping 55 sit-ups 100 rope jumping 55 squats 100 rope jumping - Heavy Bag Saturday, February 17th, 2007 10:00AM to 11:00AM 50 maegeri, mawashigeri, yokogeri, sotogeri, uchigeri, uchiro geri, uchiro yoko geri 100 squats 100 push-ups - Pad work - Kumite *** Jap man, I totally agree with what you are saying.
