Lightbulb Buddha's Zen
Buddha's Zen

Buddha said: "I consider the positions of kings and rulers as that of dust motes. I observe treasures of gold and gems as so many bricks and pebbles. I look upon the finest silken robes as tattered rags. I see myriad worlds of the universe as small seeds of fruit, and the greatest lake in India as a drop of oil on my foot. I perceive the teachings of the world to be the illusion of magicians. I discern the highest conception of emancipation as a golden brocade in a dream, and view the holy path of the illuminated ones as flowers appearing in one's eyes. I see meditation as a pillar of a mountain, Nirvana as a nightmare of daytime. I look upon the judgment of right and wrong as the serpentine dance of a dragon, and the rise and fall of beliefs as but traces left by the four seasons."

YES totally agree with all of this, especially the 'right' and 'wrong' part, too many humans are so dualistic in their thinking, good and bad, right and wrong, too many labels, concepts, rigid structures people are scared to take down... i love each and every creature, even the ones alot of people call 'bad'. in my opinion, they are not evil, they are people who need the most help.

Hi,

I completely agree with you _Simon. Us humans, we love to label everything... if only for one moment we could transcend thought and form and see things are they 'are' and not as what we are told they are.

I was at a talk last year and the speaker explained why when asked by a child for example, "What is that?", that it might be better to answer, "This is what WE call a tree". It is not absolutely a tree but that's what us humans call it. In doing so, we don't reduce the object to a mere definition. It is what we call a tree and also so much more - it is no longer a closed concept. I imagine this could also be useful in our Karate practice. A block is not just a block, etc. Nothing is absolute or written in stone. Personally I have found this useful, and it has helped me to see things in a new light.

Thank you for posting that guty.

OSU.
